Seminar in Paris on 8 June 2017
The French law on energy transition has set the objective of increasing the quantity of distributed renewable heat and cold by five by 2030. District heating and cooling (DHC) has therefore become a priority in the development of renewable sources among French regions/cities and an essential focus area in order to successfully transit towards renewable energy generation. Therefore the Nordic embassies and Trade Councils in Paris have decided to organize a French-Nordic seminar day on 8 June.
France has a long experience within district heating and hosts +500 district heating networks and 17 district cooling grids, including the largest cooling grid in Europe, which is hosted in Paris. The majority (2/3) of the delivered heating goes to residential buildings, and the remaining 1/3 goes to commercial and public buildings. Within the French government’s objective to reach the climate goals and renewable energy, large investments and incentives focus on district energy. The Nordic countries have extensive experience from managing urban heating, which has enabled them to acquire competencies, especially in the field of network governance, and to develop new innovative technologies and solutions.
NORDIC EFFICIENCY to promote the Nordic savoir-faire
The seminar will take place within the NORDIC EFFICIENCY brand developed by the Nordic Embassies and Trade Councils in Paris together with the Nordic Council of Minister. Since COP21 the Nordics have organized events and activities using this brand which has now become synonymous with Nordic know-how within energy, environment and construction.
Of particular note has been a major Nordic presence at the World efficiency Fair in 2015 that combed several Nordic conferences, seminars, networking events and press related visits. In 2016, the Nordics co-hosted a seminar on sustainable and liveable social housing at the Maison du Danemark on the Champs-Elysees. Both events included participation by a French Minister.
On 8 June 2017, a seminar on DHC will be organized under the NORDIC EFFICIENCY heading. The seminar will showcase examples from France and the Nordic countries.
It is co-organised by the five Nordic countries in collaboration with the French energy Agency, Energy Cities and the French DHC association (SNCU) and will take place in the Norwegian and Swedish Circle in central Paris.
